Through our “gig economy” approach we employ technologists primarily on an on-call basis, meaning they do not work a shift schedule and instead are available to be called in by one of our partner facilities at any time.
While this employment model doesn’t appeal to everyone, we’ve found it works for our team of compassionate, confident go-getters.

More Time That’s Yours
With an on-call-only model, our technologists are not bound to a set schedule each day or week. While you must be prepared to go into work at any time of the day or night, the fluctuations in call times give you more room in your schedule to focus on the non-work part of your life, whether that’s taking care of your family, running errands, completing house projects, or simply getting more sleep.
This approach offers a significant change from hospital employment, which typically requires technologists to work both standard shifts every day and on-call shifts during some nights and weekends – leaving little time for yourself. However, an on-call only setup does mean you must always have a backup option for your personal plans to account for the possibility of getting called in to work.

Higher Quality Patient Care
Typically, our technologists have lighter caseloads than technologists employed by hospitals. Our goal is to cap call-outs and exams to prevent burnout and ensure you can provide the best care for each patient. This also gives you a general understanding of what you could be tasked with in a given day.
This slower pace allows you to focus on completing accurate scans and generating the clearest images possible. You won’t feel rushed or distracted by a busy day of back-to-back exams, and instead, can devote your attention fully to each patient, making sure they have everything they need to feel at ease.

Rest for Your Body
Hospital technologist shifts can take a toll on both your mental and physical health. On a traditional 8:00-5:00 schedule, you may find you don’t have enough time to take a five-minute break or even eat lunch. Plus, these roles require you to be on your feet all day and physically move patients around during scans.
If you want to give your body a rest from this intensive work, an on-call-only schedule could provide the relief you need. Roshal Health technologist schedules tend to include longer stretches of downtime between calls where you can take the stress off of your body and come back refreshed for your next scan. This allows you to take better care of your patients and yourself.
Autonomous Work
With Roshal Health, you will conduct the majority of your scans on your own as the sole technologist on the case. This gives you a higher degree of autonomy than is typically found in hospital settings, as you will often be asked to present your preliminary conclusions to the radiology team.
You’ll have opportunities to grow and diversify your skill set and use this new knowledge to improve the quality of images you generate. The downside to these scenarios is limited access to on-site experienced technologists who can answer questions and provide information about techniques and equipment. However, Roshal Health has a pool of experienced ultrasound-only managers and peers who are only a phone call away.

We Take Care of Our People
Even with the increased freedom and flexibility, on-call technologist work comes with its own set of challenges. Roshal Health has established standards and best practices to mitigate these as best as we can, so our team members can get the most value out of their work experience.
While it’s not always possible, we encourage our zone managers to maintain limits on the number of call-outs and exams required of technologists each day. And, if there is not enough time for you to sleep between call-outs, you can ask not to take a specific call. Your safety and the safety of your patients comes first.
Additionally, we consider where you live when placing you at our facilities. You won’t have to drive more than an hour one way to reach your exam assignment.
We provide all of these perks, and more, at the same competitive compensation rates you’d expect from hospital employment, so you don’t have to take a financial hit when you come to work for us. We offer salaried employment for our full-time technologists, so no matter the number of call-outs you receive in a given week, your income remains the same. Additionally, team members have opportunities to take on additional shifts to earn more income.
